<p>ドレスアップした娘のBlue Ivy（ブルー・アイビー）と共にステージに上がったJay-Zは感謝を述べた後に、「それぞれの意見に基づいたものだから、全てに賛辞を送る必要はない。でも彼女は誰よりもグラミー賞を受賞していて、最優秀アルバム賞を受賞していない。これはおかしいだろう」と、会場にいる妻のBeyoncé（ビヨンセ）に目を向けながらスピーチを行った。</p>

<p>「Young Lady」と名前は伏せたものの、Beyoncéの受賞歴について語っているのは明らかだ。Beyoncéはこれまで32回の受賞を果たし、全体でもトップの受賞数であるにも関わらず、最優秀アルバム賞ではノミネートされた2010年（Taylor Swiftが受賞）、2015年（Beckが受賞）、2017年（Adeleが受賞）、そして2023年（Harry Stylesが受賞）と、いずれも受賞を逃している。</p>

<p>スピーチの最後には「受賞のことは置いておいても姿を表し続けよう。受賞に相応しいと称賛されるまで、リーダーと認められるまで。天才だ、史上最高だと呼ばれるその日まで」と、Beyoncéだけでなく全アーティストに向けて発言したJay-Z。</p>
<p>実は昨年、Beyoncéがアルバム『RENAISSANCE』で受賞を逃した際にも「グラミー賞はみんなの目標なんだ。彼らには正しい判断をしてもらいたい」と、インタビューで発言していた。</p>
<p>これまでヒップホップだけでなく音楽業界にも社会的にも影響を与え続けているJay-Z。「ナーバスな時には真実を話してしまう」とBlue Ivyの手を握りながらのスピーチだったが、終わった後にはグラミー賞のトロフィーをグラス代わりに、自身が権利を持つコニャック「D'Ussé」を注ぎ乾杯する姿も。言いたいことを言った後、というわけではないが、この何気ない姿にも王者の風格が見られる。</p>

<p>その後Usherのキャリア初期を支えたJermaine Dupri（ジャーメイン・デュプリ）が登場し、「Confessions, Pt. II.」とバラードヒット曲を続けた。</p>
<p>さらに「U Got It Bad」ではギターにH.E.R.（ハー）という豪華なサポートも得つつ、過去にパフォーマンスしたこともある「OMG」でWill.i.am（ウィル・アイ・アム）も登場。そしてLil Jon（リル・ジョン）が客席から「Turn Down For What」を歌い、盛り上げるとそのままの流れで締めの「Yeah!」、もちろんLudacris（リュダクリス）も含めてのフルセットで披露。毎年のことながらよくもここまでタイトにまとめ上げたもの。圧巻のパフォーマンスだった。</p>

<h3>衣装合わせの様子をVogueが公開　「ラスベガスのカルチャーを伝える」</h3>
<p>パフォーマンスにあたって選曲はもちろん、ステージングに合わせて衣装も注目される。今回はハーフタイムショーの10日前に行った衣装合わせの様子がVogueのYouTubeで公開されている。</p>
<p>スタイリストのコメントの中で印象的だったのが「ラスベガスのカルチャーを伝える」というコメント。Usherはスーパーボウルに向けて昨年もラスベガスでレジデントとしてショーをコンスタントに開催し、このカルチャーを表すにはこれ以上ないアイコンだろう。印象的なホワイトの衣装はドルチェ＆ガッバーナのもの。</p>

<p>残念ながらVogueの映像では解説されていなかったが、個人的には「OMG」の前に行った衣装チェンジでブラックに変えてきたのが印象的だった。なぜならここで披露されたローラースケートでのパフォーマンスは、地元アトランタにおける有名なカルチャーのひとつ。ローラースケート場がクラブのようになることは、日本ではなかなか想像もつかないが、Usherのバックボーンとしてしっかり取り入れられているのがファンとしても嬉しく感じた。</p>

<p>『Hell's Kitchen』は90年代のニューヨークを舞台にマンハッタンのヘルズ・キッチン地区で、17歳の主人公が自分自身を探求していくストーリー。ミュージカルキャストによって歌われた楽曲は主にカバーからなるアルバムとしても公開されており、Alicia Keysの代表曲である「Fallin」、「If I Ain't Got You」、「Girl on Fire」、「No One」なども使用された、ファンにはたまらないミュージカル。もちろん「Empire State of Mind」も含まれている。</p>

<p>Alicia Keysは過去にソロのパフォーマンスで「Empire State of Mind」の別バージョンも披露してきており、彼女にとっても大切な曲であることは間違い無いだろう。Jay-Zはラッパーとして引退はしていないものの、フィーチャリングばかりで自身の名義ではリリースから遠ざかっている。とはいえ今回のパフォーマンスで2人の距離感が遠いものでは無いこともわかったので、ファンとしては新曲に期待したいところだ。</p>
