<h2>BEHRINGERがMichael Jackson 「Thriller」を再現</h2>
<p>今やシンセファン注目ブランドの1つとなりつつあるBEHRINGER（ベリンガー）が、自社のシンセや機材だけを利用してMichael Jackson 「Thriller」を再現するビデオをYouTubeに公開。映像中ではMinimoogを再現したBEHRINGERの人気シンセModel Dや、発売の待たれているTR-808を再現したドラムマシンRD-808などが登場。ミキサーやリバーブといった周辺機材もBEHRINGERグループの製品でセットアップ。</p>

<p>名曲を再現しつつ自社の製品を見せるというコンセプトの動画で、テンポよく楽しめる内容・・となるはずが視聴者のフォーカスは早い段階でズレはじめる。映像中2分56秒あたりにデモンストレーターが「（LinnDrumクローンを）どこかが作らないかな」と思わせぶりな発言をする箇所あり、待っている人も多いであろうRD-808が登場しているにも関わらず、コメント欄には存在さえ定かでないLinnDrumクローンの話題で盛り上がりだした。海外のオーディオ機材系メディアでも取り上げられ、これまでにあった噂もプラスされてか、LinnDrumクローンの開発スタートが公式にアナウンスされたかのようなヴォルテージに。</p>

<h3>名曲の質感をハードウェアならではの操作性で即再現</h3>

<p>まずは原曲中でももっとも特徴的なMinimoogのビヨビヨとしたベースラインをクローンであるModel Dで再現。慣れた手つきでサラサラっとツマミをいじって狙ったサウンドまで一直線にたどり着く様子が心地いい。まるで手足のように動かせる操作感はハードウェアのシンセサイザーならでは。肝心の音だが、フィルターでレゾナンスを上げた時のビヨビヨムニムニとした質感はmoogそのもの。丸みとエッジが共存するようなサウンドがサクッと再現されている。本物のMinimoogは中古で30〜40万円という世界なので5万円以下で買えるModel Dは当然ながら激売れ中。</p>

<p>続いてドラムをRD-808で打ち込み。ちなみに問題のLinnDrum発言もこのシーンで。キックのディケイをツマミでちょちょっと下げて、一瞬で原曲に近いタイトなバスドラを作ったかと思うと、808伝統のステップシーケンサーで即座にドラムパターンが組み上げられる。808の実機がいつまでも人気なのはサウンドもあるけど、この操作感がもたらすドラムを組む楽しさもあるように思う。いつまでもドラムパターン作っとける。</p>

<p>その上にBEHRINGERの人気アナログシンセDeepMind 12でパッドを足し、ギター（と犬の鳴き声も）を足すとあっという間にMichael Jackson 「Thriller」のトラックに。</p>
<p>わずか数分でサウンドの質感はかなりソレらしい音になり、最後に「いやいや、ムーンウォークはだめだよ、やらないよ」と自分でムーンウォーク振りをしたうえで、ムーンウォークを披露する微妙な小芝居で動画は終了。</p>

<p>さて、動画内でのもう1つの話題、LinnDrumクローンが出るのかという件について。最も詳しいまとめを出した思われるのがこちらの<a href="http://www.synthanatomy.com/2019/07/behringer-lmx-news-linndrum-clone-teaser-discovered-in-a-new-video.html">Synth Anatomy</a>。これまでの噂などからまとめられた詳細なスペック情報まで記載されており、なんだか本当にリリースされそうな雰囲気。ネット上の書き込みでも、もはや驚きよりも「やっぱりきたね」「まあ次はそこだろうな」と当然の流れとして受け入れられ始める。</p>

<p>「人類史上最も売れたアルバム」であるMichael Jackson（マイケル・ジャクソン）のアルバム 『Thriller』。全世界で1億枚を超えるセールス記録を達成しているモンスターアルバムが、12月3日付のBillboard 200（全米アルバムチャート）で7位ランクインを果たしたことが明らかになった。</p>
<p>『Thriller』が最後に全米アルバムチャートのTOP10にランクインしたのは1984年6月30日付のチャートなので、今回のTOP10ランクインは実に38年5カ月振り。これまでに 『Thriller』 は、全米アルバムチャート通算37週No.1、そして同チャートTOP10に80週エントリーという大記録を打ち立てていたが、今回でそのTOP10エントリー週の記録を、38年5カ月ぶりに“81週に更新”したことになる。</p>

<h3>40周年記念エディションもリリース</h3>
<p>TOP10に返り咲いた大きな理由として今年リリース40周年を迎えたことも大きいだろう。さらに40周年を記念して11月にはCD2枚組（アナログ盤も同時リリース、デジタル版も同日配信）の『スリラー＜40周年記念エクスパンデッド・エディション＞』 が全世界で発売となった。</p>
<p>オリジナル・アルバムを収録したDISC1に加え、DISC2にはMichael Jacksonがアルバムのために準備していた完全未発表音源を含む、ファンへのサプライズ満載の10曲が収録されており、その中には、「Thriller」 の原型としてその名を知られる 「Starlight」 や、イエロー・マジック・オーケストラが原曲の「Behind The Mask」のオリジナル・デモなども含まれる。</p>

<h3>4KリマスターMVも公開中</h3>
<p>最近では、懐かしのMVが解像度を上げた4Kバージョンとして再公開されることが多いが、アルバム『Thriller』からは「Thriller」、そして「Beat It」が4Kリマスター版として公開されている。特に現在に至るまでミュージックビデオの最高傑作と言われる「Thriller」は、1999年にMTVが発表した「今まで作られたビデオの中で最も偉大なベスト100」において1位にも輝いている。</p>
<p>さらに40周年記念エクスパンデッド・エディションでは日本盤のみの追加仕様として68ページにも及ぶ日本語ブックレットも付いており、こちらはライムスター宇多丸によるMVについての解説や音楽ジャーナリスト高橋芳朗による全曲解説、湯川れい子による1982年初発売時ライナーノーツも含まれており、改めて『Thriller』について深掘りすることができるパッケージだ。</p>
