本当はラップアルバムを作りたかった？収録曲のタイトルにはBeyoncéの名前も。

<p>Big Boi（ビッグ・ボーイ）とのグループ、OutKast（アウトキャスト）で一時代を築き、今でも業界の重要人物として位置付けられるAndré 3000（アンドレ・3000）が17年ぶりのアルバム、そしてソロとしては初となる、言うなればデビューアルバム『New Blue Sun』をリリースした。</p>
<p>多くのファンが彼のラップをまた聴けるものと期待していただろうが、なんとこのアルバムはインストルメンタル、フルートアルバムとなっている。André 3000はここ日本でもフルートを持参してストリートで目撃されていたのも記憶に新しい。</p>

『New Blue Sun』の収録曲はとにかくどれもタイトルが長い。通常では考えつかないアプローチもAndré 3000が垣間見えるが、1曲目からそのタイトルには興味が湧く。「I Swear, I Really Wanted To Make A ‘Rap’ Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time」と名付けた1曲目。タイトルにも“ラップアルバム”を作りたかった気持ちが表れている。</p>
<p>リリースに先駆けてGQとNPRのインタビューを受けたAndré 3000は、世代に関係なくプロデューサーからビートが届くこと、常にリリックを書こうとしていることも告白しつつ「ラップをすることがリアルではないように感じる。（ラップを通して）話すことがないんだ」とコメント。「内視鏡検査に行くことをラップするわけにもいかないだろう」とジョークも交えて説明している。</p>

<h3>Beyoncéの名前がタイトルに</h3>
<p>アルバムの5曲目のタイトルには「Ninety Three ‘Til Infinity And Beyoncé」とBeyoncé（ビヨンセ）の名前が使用されている。このタイトルにするためにAndré 3000はJay-Z（ジェイ・Z）にテキストを送り「Beyoncéに聞いてもらえる？」と尋ねたこともインタビューで明かしている。Jay-ZとAndré 3000が連絡を取り合うなんて、長年のヒップホップファンとしてはそれだけで鳥肌が立つようなエピソードだ。</p>
<p>このタイトルはSouls of Mischief（ソウルズ・オブ・ミスチーフ）が1993年にリリースした名曲「’93 ’til Infinity」をサンプリングしたもので、André 3000は大ファンだったと語る。快諾してくれたJay-ZとBeyoncéに対して感謝も述べていた。</p>

<p>現地時間9月9日（土）にラドロー・ストリートとリヴィントン・ストリートの角に位置する一角では、Beastie BoysのメンバーのMike DとAd-Rockが出席する改名セレモニーが行われ、今後、その一角はBeastie Boys Squareと呼ばれることになる。また改名セレモニーでは、Jon Bless HiFi SystemによるゲストDJセットも行われる予定だ。</p>

<p>改名のためのロビー活動は、10年前に地域住民のLeRoy McCarthyという人物が、その一角の改名を求める嘆願書を提出したことからスタート。しかし、2014年に地元のコミュニティ委員会はこの申請を却下。これによりLeRoy McCarthyは、その後5年間さらなる申請を行うことを禁止されていた。しかし、2022年にニューヨーク市議会で承認されたことで正式に改名されることになったという。</p>
<p>LeRoy McCarthyは改名セレモニーついて、「私たちの多くが知っているように、Beastie Boysがシーンに登場したことでヒップホップ・ゲームが一変した。今回の改名は、ロウアー・イースト・サイドの祝典であり、ヒップホップの祝典であり、特にこれを実現するために本当に長い間、改名に向けて取り組んできた私たちのコミュニティの祝典です」と述べている。</p>

<h3>さらなるアルバムにも意欲的なAndré 3000</h3>
<p>『New Blue Sun』はソロして初というだけでなく、約20年ぶりのアルバムとなった。意外性を持ちつつ、ポジティブなフィードバックを受けた作品だがファンとしてはラップする彼の姿も見たかったことだろう。そしてCBS Morningsのインタビューでは「Outkastとしてのアルバムも作りたい」と明言している。噂されていた相方Big Boi（ビッグ・ボーイ）との関係も問題ではなさそうだ。</p>
<p>Pharoahe Monchによると投稿された写真はロサンゼルスのスタジオで、かつてEminem（エミネム）やJay-Z（ジェイ・Z）らとともコラボしてきたジャズ・トランペッターのKeyon Harrold（キーヨン・ハロルド）との制作だった模様。Pharoahe Monchは2014年のアルバム『PTSD: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder』以来のプロジェクトととなる『External Affairs』のリリースを今年初めにアナウンスしており、まだリリースはされていないものの、André 3000が絡んだ作品になるかもしれない。</p>

<p>さらにAndré 3000は今後のリリースが期待できるメッセージをBBC’s Radio 6 Musicに出演した際にも残している。話によると相手はUKのソウル・コレクティブ。音楽仲間が紹介してくれた彼らのステージを見て驚き、すでにスタジオでも音楽を聴いたりと一緒の時間を過ごしたとのこと。「将来的なコラボの可能性はあるか」という質問にも「形になる何かを作りたい」と答えている。</p>
<p>UKのアーティストが誰なのか明言していないものの、「彼らは1枚か2枚しかアルバムを出していないのでは」とコメントしていることを考えると新しいアーティストなのかも？ ヒップホップやR&amp;Bではない可能性もあるが『New Blue Sun』以降、さらなる制作意欲が駆きたてられているのは間違いなさそうだ。</p>
